Graduation Requirements

Graduation requirements depend on when you started high school in Ontario.

If you started high school after September 1999, you must complete the current (OSS) diploma under the "new" curriculum.

If you entered high school before September 1999, you must complete the OSIS Diploma under the "old" curriculum.

 

OSS - NEW DIPLOMA REQUIREMENTS (30 credits)

OSIS - OLD DIPLOMA REQUIREMENTS (30 credits)

18 compulsory credits:

  • 4 English (one for each grade)

  • 1 French as a Second Language

  • 3 Mathematics - (one credit in grade 11 or 12)

  • 2 Science

  • 1 Canadian History

  • 1 Canadian Geography

  • 1 Arts

  • 1 Health and Physical Education

  • ½ Civics

  • ½ Career Studies

1 additional credit in:

  • English

  • A third language

  • Social Science

  • Canadian and World Studies

1 additional credit in:

  • Health and Physical Education

  • Business Studies

  • The Arts - (Music, Art, Drama, Dance)

1 additional credit in:

  • Science - (grade 11 or 12)

  • Technological Education -(grades 9 - 12)

Plus: 12 elective credits from the our course list. These credits allow students to meet college, apprenticeship or work requirements.

Plus: Grade 10 Literacy Test

Plus: 40 hours of Community Service

Adults taking OSS diploma may be eligible for the "Second Chance" MPLAR program.

 

16 compulsory credits:

  • 5 English

  • 2 Math

  • 2 Science

  • 1 French

  • 1 Canadian History

  • 1 Canadian Geography

  • 1 Art

  • 1 Business Studies/Technology

  • 1 Physical education

  • 1 Senior Social Science

Plus: 14 elective credits

Adults taking the OSIS Diploma may be eligible for Maturity Credits.

 

Graduation

Students can graduate after completing all the requirements. St. Charles Adult High School has a graduation ceremony in October of each year. This is a great opportunity to celebrate taking a second chance at life and succeeding!
